Hi, I’m Bryan Post, America’s Foremost Child Behavior Expert. If your child’s behavior challenges seem bigger and more complex than you can handle, it simply means that you must grow to be a more simple, flexible and understanding parent. Seem a little confusing?
We often times falsely believe that the answer to the issues with our children lie in becoming smarter, quicker, or wittier than their nastiest barrage of insults. I really wanted to thank you for helping save another life.
I wrote you about a year ago concerning a then 15 year-old boy who we had taken in. After 6 months of crazy behavior I had him evaluated by a neuropsychologist and he was diagnosed with severe disorganized RAD, PTSD, ADHD and other things.
No therapist would help me and several told me that we should get rid of him. Life for our family of 7 was difficult to impossible.
I emailed you and you told me not to give up hope. We have been working hard to provide the environment necessary for him to heal. We read your books.
We have done everything we could to make our violent crazy home the one you suggested. Now, 1 1/2 years later after steady but slow progress he had a major breakthrough. After a colossal meltdown I was able to connect enough for him to share for hours the pain he had been holding in.
It is like living with a different person. I know life won’t be easy and there will setbacks I am sure but I think he has come so far it is amazing, amazing. Thank you for your words of encouragement. I don’t know what I would have done without you. You were the only one who said this teenage boy was savable.
